Default Automatic Tailgate opener

I have a 2006 X Type 2.2D SE estate. A few weeks ago, I noticed that inboard of the hinges, there are two arms that appear from somewhere above the headlining and attach to the tailgate by ball joints. "Ah," I thought, "I have a power tailgate lifter!" After searching unsuccessfully for a button and digging through the owner's manual, I decided that this was not the case. Then, on YouTube, I saw a video of someone pushing the boot/tailgate button on a remote fob and the tailgate of an X400 gliding majestically open. No instruction or explanation - just a suggestion that some sort of helper springs on the struts were involved. Does anyone have the facts about this? If it's springs, what size are they, where do I get them and is there anything special about installing them? Do you need to be a weightlifter to haul the tailgate closed again? And what are those arms hiding in my headlining? Many thanks to anyone out there who may have an answer.

If you feel this lift strength is still going to be insufficient, just google higher strength ones
