Bad Hi beam

Bad Hi beam
I have a 2004 X-type2.5, my high beam on the drivers side went out.
The number on the bulb is H1-BL-05314,it has a red and a black lead.
I think it is a HID Zenon, I can't find one anywhere, I called Jaguar and
they wanted $250 for a bulb. Can I bypass that ballast assembly and
use a H1 bulb, the bulb sockets appear to be the same size. Any
information or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks

The high beam bulbs are not HID the low or dip beam is HID if it has a ballast and an igniter mounted to the back of the bulb. H1 bulbs are off the shelf at auto parts stores. You can plug and play with the bulb.
The HID bulb is a DS2 bulb and is round based where the H1 is blade based.
If the high beam and low beam bulb connectors look the same then you don't have the HID variant headlight system with ballast and igniter.
