any suggestions how to open bonnet as cable is not working the bonnet is held on drivers side?? Thanks

 

Where is it broken? The original on my X-Type "pulled" out of the lever under the dash. Has that happened to yours? The "ball" (actually I believe it is a "cylinder") on the end of the cable was still there, just no longer attached to the opening lever. I was able to grab is with pliers and give it a "yank". It required a pretty good pull since I wasn't able to use the lever-action of the lever.

I believe I had to remove the trim piece around the handle.
