Default Both keys won't work

A month ago, my spare key died. When my car was at the dealer, I gave them the dead one and kept the good one with me. When I picked it up, the good key was dead, and the formerly dead key was working. My key worked this morning to unlock the car, but 15 minutes later, it was totally dead. What can I do to reprogram the key? I don't know what the dealer did, but they didn't charge me.

If they did the programming to restore the operation of the key you left with the car, that would have rendered the key you had inoperative. That COULD explain it.

Here's how to program both remote transmitters:

· The ignition must be cycled four times between Run and Accessory four times. It is
important to end the cycle in the Accessory position.
· This starts the programming mode, which is indicated by a chime from the GEM.
· The key must be removed from the ignition. Following this, press a button on the RF
transmitter within 10 seconds. If the RF transmitter has been accepted, the GEM emits
a chime.
· To programme further transmitters, press a button on the next RF transmitter within 10
seconds of the previous entry.
· Up to 4 RF transmitters can be programmed into the GEM.
· The programming mode can be terminated when any of the following occurs:
o The ignition is switched to Run,
o No further RF transmitters are programmed within 10 seconds,
o An attempt is made to programme more than 4 transmitters.
· Once the GEM has dropped out of the transmitter-programming mode, restarting the
process will and programming another RF transmitter will erase all previous
transmitters that were stored within the GEM.

Good luck!

Hey, there!

Sorry to hear. Unfortunately, I believe the dealer needed all keys that you wanted to program to the car. By giving them the spare, they programmed just that one to the car which made the one you held onto useless. Interesting to hear that they didn't charge you though.

If you have no working keys now, I think your options are to contact a locksmith or have the car towed to the dealer to have the keys programmed.

Not sure why the one key stopped working, though.

Good luck!
