Default Bought a 2007 X-type (without looking), need some help with tooling

Going to pick-up a very low mileage (I4 diesel) X-Type next week.
Has been stored for 2 yrs, so at least the battery will be down.

Please tell me what do I need, as I will travel with a friend without possibilties of bringing my entire tool cart.

some wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, will be brought along.
Any specialty tools?
Will buy a battery locally.

Edit: how does the trunk open in these cars? Is there a key hole or can it only be opened from inside/with the keyfob?
Can I drive the car if the keyfob battery is empty?

Engine had been running few months ago (using a donor car battery), so I intend to drive it home (have arranged insurance and all documents already).

Thanks for your help!

The trunk is electrically unlocked. So, you will need to simply unlock the doors and hten replace the battery under the hood. From there, the trunk should work for you.

As for tools, I would say to bring a set of jumper cables and then a wrench roll. Probably not a bad idea to also bring a socket set and dual 6" extensions. Wit hthat, you can handle most of what you should encounter.

Siphon hose to suck out all old fuel before even ATTEMPTING to start it (2 years sitting). Fresh fuel. Make sure you buy the proper battery as well (all kinds of gremlins can pop up if improper one installed). Any other fluids it may be low on (oil, coolant, etc.) Can be bought locally. Maybe an air pump if the tires are low?

Apart from attempting to suck out old fuel "good idea" I would put in a new fuel filter it's an easy swop. Google how to first.

As it's a diesel, I thought that it mattered less than for a gasoline engine.
I'll bring a hose just in case. If I can source a filter, I'll take it also with me, however I don't intend to perform a full service on the side of the road, I've got a two-poster at home that makes this much easier ...

How is the battery held down? Do I need (swivel) sockets with a long T-handle? 10/13 mm?

I'll bring a hand pump with me as well, as well as a breaker bar with a 19mm socket. The hand pump will get me to the nearest gas station, and if needed I can mount the spare tire. I hope there's a jack in the car, if not I will borrow one locally.

Hi Diesel is usually ok for about six months then it's dependent on temperature, It can get a bit claggy. Engine will run on bad diesel but only till it clogs up the filter. You may be lucky.
My battery is held with a top bracket, "small af spanner" no extension needed.
The only way into the trunk/boot is with the plip if this does not work you really are stuffed .There is no key hole on the x type. You cant even get into the boot by folding down the back seats. For security the seat release is in the boot. Have a read on this forum on how to gain access and as soon as convenient do the bit of wire under the number plate trick.
Hope this helps and goodluck.

OK, comprende about the diesel.

Is that "small af" in imperial or metric ?

Jaguar = British = metric

Plip = ? (Key fob, trunk electronic button on trunk/boot)

Also, if the car has the factory lug nut remover, throw it away and stock the correct size socket with ratchet/extension to remove the lugs.

PLIP is slang name for the key fob with door open and close controls.

Got home. Managed to fix my jeep, so I could tow her home. Changed battery there, everything worked. Trunk opened, windows, navigation, everything. Car drove fine, didn't hear anything unusual.
Need to clean her up, service her, and we've got a new DD (daily driver). I was just a bit dissapointed with the size, as I'm used to slightly bigger cars. My current DD is an audi A6 sedan, probably bigger in all three dimensions. I almost touch the roof in the X-Type. Will have to adjust myself a bit. Find room for my left elbow (car's a left hand drive).
Very pleased that the car came with a lot of options though. Low mileage (30k miles) means I might resell it later on with little to no loss. Overall, very well pleased.
WIll keep you updated.

PS, the small af means 10mm. piece of cake, I brought way too many tools with me.

Hello there... she followed me home through the snow.

EDIT: There is one thing that is weird: the driver's door does not unlock together with the rest using the keyfob. I have to use the key in the door lock to open the door. I tried the one/two stage unlock thing (pressing 4 seconds on both the lock and unlock button on the keyfob), but this didn't solve the problem. It must be something mechanical. Anybody cares to guess?
AFter some googling, this thread describes exactly my problem: link . Meaning I will have to replace the lock mechanism?

Removed the door trim panel, pinpointed the problem to mechanical friction. WHen I pull slightly on the steel wire and use the plip (thx Dunks ), the driver's door locks and unlocks without problem.
I tried oiling the steel wire and liner, and the lock mechanism, but it still does not work on its own. Whit only the slightest help, it works. Is there a particular part that requires removing the lock mechanism, that needs greasing?

EDIT: just found this. WIll report back!

Fixed! It was indeed the rod, wiggling a bit to change its position and everything works again.

Next: bluetooth connectivity problem.
Phone menu says "ready", where it should say "ready to connect" or something alike. My phone also does not find find any bluetooth devices. Any ideas?

Most likely it is not fitted with a bluetooth module. Do a search here (main page, and change forum to 'X only' to find retrofits). Not inexpensive really. My suggestion would be do a member name search for "Dennis Black" and read his posts on installing a single or double din aftermarket unit with all the features you could ever need/want. If it does have the module, on the main page under "stickies" there are instructions for connecting.

And if the problem on your door was/is the white plastic clip that wears out and slips, here's the part =

Managed to connect my phone thanks to the sticky you mentioned above. Had to push ##3#*# + call button and enter 1313 before it went into connecting mode. So far, the car has turned out great and this forum has proven itself very valuable!
