Default Brake Booster Check Valve the hard way!

I was having the ubiquitous 0171, 0174, 0430 codes. As I had previously taken care of the breather hose ($11) and the IMT o-rings ($6), I figured I'd finish out the X-Type hat trick. I have to drive 24 miles to the dealership across toll roads which sucked. The other parts I was able to order through Carquest, but not this one apparantly. I made sure to dress like a slob and lower the tone.

Anyway, $104(why?) later I get home and take a nap. I had to leave for work at 2:30 so at 2:00 I start to change it out. I take off the right side, then when I get to the left disaster strikes!

It snaps off. The nub then falls into the manifold.

Needless to say I was three hours late to work today as I got to dissassemble and reassemble my manifold to remove a half insh piece of plastic.

Still need to deal with the catcon, but I have yet to check the codes.

Ouch. I noticed my nub on the manifold side is missing. Is that piece the actual check valve on the brake booster hose? I was thinking the check valve was the ball in the center. I wonder if this what is partially cause my CEL. Thanks.

The check valve is in that bulb. But, if your brake boost hose isn't properly seated in the manifold you could definitely have found a vacuum leak.

ok thanks. I taped it up really good where the nub/sleeve is missing but nothing changed performance wise. I wish I could just get that piece that is missing, but looks like I will have to bite the bullet and drop $80 for a new hose. Thanks mohrd!
