Unhappy Broke a coil spring

Has anyone ever heard of or seen a front coil spring break on a X-Type? Lost three inches off my sport coil. Had many a low rider in the past and never seen one cut lose like this.

I've seen this happen on factory and aftermarket springs, but it is rare. The likelihood on factory springs is higher because they tend to have more factory preload on them and are smaller diameter coils typically.

I would call this rare. I dont think dealer springs are expensive, although installation is chore.

as far as prelaod.. I dunno about the logic on that one, the weight of the car is the same no matter what spring you use. WHen designing springs it should not let the steel anywhere close to the yield point.

I will be picking up the new coil in the morning for $70 at the dealership so not too bad on the cost. We have a maintenance shop at work so labor won't be bad either.

Thanks

The front end was torn down today to find that the strut mount was destroyed as well. Have to get more parts next week to finish it up.
