Burning oil smell in cabin
So I believe I am having an issue with the IMT o rings. I was looking at a video how to do this it didn't look that complicated, contacted the Jaguar dealership they said it was 10 hours of labor which is insane. Has anyone done this job to their x type themselves, it seems pretty straight forward job. I'm going to have to really diagnose to see if that is where the leak is coming from, I suspect that seems like what others are having is this same problem, anyone have any suggestions for trying to diagnose where the oil is leaking from?

Replacing the IMT O-rings might take 10 minutes-if you are really slow. Just loosen the two bolts on each one, slide it out and swap out the O-rings. The bottom one doesn't come all the way off, but you can stretch the o-ring over it. 10 hours? Maybe they were talking about the oil pan gasket. There must have been some miscommunication in your conversation with them.

Hey Alfadude, it looked like it was a bit more then a 10 minute job it looks like wiper arms had to come off, this article does this look like the procedure? https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ics-faq-32135/
they say it takes 2 hours. 10 hours was a bit much he knew it was IMT O rings, he called it major surgery

Ah, I was going to say those photos were different, on mine I can easily see the one on the top, not so much the one on the bottom. So on the X type you shouldn't have to dismantle much to get access to the bottom IMT O ring? I can't really see where it is, the top isn't leaking I know that its dry as a bone around there. I crawled under the car wiped all the oil off the oil pan and the transmission casing, there wasn't really that much if they didn't design the exhaust right over all the oil pan etc like that I'd just leave this leak alone it doesn't even make it to the garage floor (maybe the reason for that is the exhaust burns it off before it can lol. I can't quite tell where the leak is really coming from, it looks like the seal around the manifold to the block could be the culprit, or maybe the oil pan itself (someone was saying if it is the oil pan that is a big job, not sure why it looks like it would come off even leaving the exhaust all attached) I mean it only has to lower enough to get the new gasket on.

You sure you're looking at the IMTs!! Both the upper and lower ones are just sitting on the end of the inlet manifold and as Jagxtype76 says it's no more than a ten minute job to get them out and back if you hurry! There's nothing in the way of either.
Turning to the oil pan, if you check out the securing bolts carefully, you'll find that one cannot be removed without either taking out the transfer box or butchering the transfer case by drilling an access hole though one of its webs.

You didn't say what engine you had. If a 2.5 and if IMT rings leak oil there should be P0174 P0171 up the gazo because of vacuum leaks and if there is a vac leak IT'S SUCKING NO BLOWING so there should be no oil.FYI if you haven't done upper/lower O rings in a while there is a problem with the valve cover gaskets and(O rings). The spark plug are recessed and fill up with oil and the fumes get sucked in the heater vent. The plugs won't foul out because oil is noncondutive BUT the extra oil will eventually overheat the plugs shortening there life (boiled in oil) and the oil eventually leaks.

Its the 3.0 here is a photo I submitted this summer

So I won't see oil leaking on the manifold, because the leak would be internal? Not sure why the air intake for the cabin close to the exhaust system anyways, seems like a design flaw.
