When changing the compressor I always change out the accumulator. In fact you probably won't get a warranty on your new compressor without a new accumulator. I most often, and did on the Xtype, change out the orifice tube. You need to at least remove and clean it. I backflushed all the tubing, condenser, and evaporator with mineral spirits, too. But actually it didn't look like I got anything extra out of that. I held vacuum on the system overnight to be sure I evaporated all the solvent out. My AC performance went from poor to excellent.

Big +1 on changing out the accumulator - at a minimum when changing the compressor.

I changed the compressor out on my wife's 02 X Type. I think I paid $250.00 for the compressor and dryer. Fortunately i have a buddy with A/C tools and was able to run vacuum etc. Cleaned the orifice tube and recharged. So far so good!
