Default Can I go with 225/55/16 on my stock rims?

Hello -

I need new tires and would like to go a bit wider.

The Manual recommends 205s and cautions 215s.

Will the stock wheels accept a wider tire, say 225s?

If 225 are ok, any caveats?

I have lowered the car about 1.25 inches, Bilstein B12s.

Advise?

I run 225-40 on a set of 18x7.5 rims, my plastic inner wells are dam near gone from wear, and I have rolled front fenders, not major but enuf to chip paint.
Hope the info helps a lil.

InnzanE, Thank you. Seems 225s will work in my 16s but might make some contact. I'm gonna put in on the rack next week and see. Pretty sure I'm gonna go with the summer 215 Bridgestone comp-2s, on sale at TR.com for 75/per. Or the Raptors at 65/per. Can't beat that.

What size tires are you using right now? If you are running the stock size, is it 205/55/16? If memory serves, on the Sport versions the stock tire size was 225/40/18. If you want to put 225/55/16s on there the height will be taller. Might want to consider going to a lower aspect ration, like 50 or 45, with the car being lowered. Plus that extra sidewall might look a little out of proportion.

Alfadude, Didn't realize the 225s would be 'taller' thought just wider. Ok thanks for the detail.

That middle number (55) in the 225/55/16 is the aspect ratio of the sidewall vs. the width. So, 55% of 205mm is less than 55% of 225, so the sidewall would be taller. And even though you would still be using a 16" rim the circumference of the tire would be bigger. So, if you were looking for a more sporty look, a taller sidewall is probably not going to help.

There are a number of calculators you could find, but here is one I found with a quick search in case you want to try and match up the same circumference. Tire Size Calculator ? Tire dimensions/diameter/circumference/revolutions per mile

I see the idea now. Thank you. The 225/50/16 appear to work. That's great!

That is some decent prices for them.
My tire choice has gone to Fullway HP108, for my size they were $119 a pair delivered from ebay.
