Default Cannot remove road wheel ?

All lug nuts way loose, but wheel will not move off center location to hub.

Any suggestions....I'm guessing corrosion here.

Never encountered this problem before...always changed winter/summer wheels without problem for years now.

Thanks,

Rob

OK. Problem solved.

Was concerned about "wacking" the extremities of the wheel...potential wheel bearing damage.......so...removed center cap...use medium claw hammer against inner lip of center cap hole and end of the wheel stub axle (thread is nicely undercut here, so no thread damage)...use long cheater bar (tube actually) and lever wheel off...works like a charm.

Can't find the camera at the moment..I'll try to post a few photos later.

Thanks,

Rob.

1100me, you can use a 3 pound hammer (no bounce or rubber mallet) to hit the tire with. That won't affect the bearing. Not any worse that hitting a pothole or the like.

Remember to put a little smear of anti-seize on the contact area before you put the tire back on, and it will pop right off next time!

+1

And if you don't like the sight of copper grease on your alloys, Land Rover dealers stock this product:

ZETA GREASE is an aluminium based anti-seize. Same colour as the wheels!

Next time, leave the lugnuts loose a turn or two and lower the car back onto it's wheels. Drive it back and forth a bit (slowly) and the wheel will come loose.

My favorite is to use a good size 4x4 chunk of wood. Just haul off and hit the rubber hard. The shops I've been to actually use long handled 8lb sledge hammers!!

I understand just add to this .. Try turning the steering wheel about little half turn left then right ( slowly) as you drive along.

I am aware of this working very well after a friend found that his large hammer only dented his wheel.

yeah, large hammers shouldn't hit the wheel, just the tire.

+1 on the smearing of grease to prevent future seizures.

Personally, though, I've never used anti-seize or any special grease for this purpose. A little smear of whatever wheel bearing grease you have on hand or whatever is already in your grease gun will do the job perfectly well.

No need to use anything special. Unless you want to, of course. In that case, by all means, go ahead

Cheers
DD
