Default Catalytic Converter X-Type Questions...

Ok, I've got a 2002 X-Type (V6 3.0L)and have clogged cat's. After getting a few estimates so far I'm looking at $450 per catalytic converter (jaguar orig) and about $600 in labor.

Since it's causing MIL, I need to get it fixed, without being ridiculous $$$$.

Here are two ideas I had and wanted to see if anyone else have done it or tried it.

1) Replace all four O2 sensors with Sensor simulators (or eliminators), then gut the stock CAT's so it's free flowing.

2) Replace two of the four O2 sensors (behind CAT's) with Sensor simulator (or eliminators), then gut the stock CAT's so it's free flowing.

Here are links to the site I've used before for other cars to get eh simulator/eliminators.

ez-cel-fix-oxygen-sensor

adjustable-oxygen-sensor-simulator

I've used the ez-cel one's before on a '97 civic and using it just behind the CAT' worked fine and still haven't gotten a MIL from it.

Is it going to be that easy on this jag' or anyone have any experience with this type of mod?

oh and just fyi, I'm not worry about emissions. Just want to know if of this might work on this car.

Ok, well scratch that cat' problem. After a few hours at muffler shop, found the cat's weren't the problem and the real problem was so dumb I'm still not thrilled about it.

Beware of aftermarket ones. They do not fit. You have to do a bunch of modifications, especially to the transfer case. Go factory. I know they cost more, but you will regret the aftermarket ones because you will be redoing the same job in a year if you go aftermarket.

If your car is setting a P0420/P0421 code, don't run to change the cats, it might be something else that is causing those codes to set. If there are other codes being set, look at them first and then worry about the cats later.

Randallc79, why post here if you're not going to finish your own thread? The reason we are here is to share information to our fellow jag owners. Some of us may be in the same situation that you were in and could you your experience to help us with a similiar problem. At least now i know not to read any more of your threads because useful info won't be included.

Mat it or move over! Pedal to the metal!
