If anyone who has a 2001 to 2003 x type with the single cup holder console that is usless. Just wanted to let you know the 2004 and up will fit. Just did it and it is so much better. Also if anyone knows what the 2 wire harness clips under the back of the console just under the rear ashtray are for? I would love to know.

I think those wires are for the bluetooth/phone module(s) but I could be wrong.

 

Thanks for the tip! I hate my single cup holder and it never occurred to me to swap out the console.

BTW I noticed there are two types. One for 2004-2006 and one for 2007-2008. I wish I could find the 2007/2008 one.

I have a 2007 and the bottom of the cup holder is chrome.

 

Therre is also a replacement change tray for the single cup holder. It is available in the correct color from the dealer, or from any english dealer...cost as I remember about $30...including shipping. I can look for the part number if you need it. It works better than I expected, and looks better than cup holders. As I don't drink in my cat....it is the perfect item

 

Good to know! I tried to look at all the changes year to year, but I didn't notice the second redesigned cup holders until recently.

At this point, I'm not picky. I just need the extra storage for my phone and wallet which are too bulky for the ash tray. Only drink would be a bottle of water every now and then.

 

I went ahead and "upgraded" my console after reading this thread. Any console from 2004 and up will fit. Here's a picture of my old one next to the new one.




BTW, the parking brake cover is not stock. It's an upgraded genuine leather cover I bought off ebay. My gear shift cover is also real leather. (not in picture) That fake stuff cracks too easily. I'll post pictures in another thread for those.

I'm under the impression that dove (LHJ) was dropped from the interior trim list when they updated the car slightly in ~2004 (new steering wheel, different boot plinth, no viscous coupling in the transfer case, etc), so if the dual-cup console was only available starting 2004 as CatFan says, it might be impossible to find one.

It looks like dove gray was replaced with stone gray. Although the shade may be off, it may be a better match than black.

 

My dash, seats, center console and are dove grey, however my dash pad, scuff plates and carpet are all black so I think the black console will actually look nice.

 

I seen a few on ebay. They ranged from about 60 bucks to 180. Some with the armrest some without.
