Default Central Locking Issue with Key fob

Started today, all of a sudden I'm having issues with locking my car with the key fob.

When I attempt to lock the car, it receives the signal fine cause the headlights blink as usual and when I press to lock again, the horn beeps as usual. However, the doors are not locked and if I open one of the doors or boot, the alarm obviously goes off cause the it was armed.

If I wait a couple of minutes, sometimes it works and the car locks. I've tried both my keys, same results.

I don't have an issue with unlocking, works 100% of the time.

The strange part is that when I drive the car, the doors lock automatically with no issues.

What the heck could it be? I'm looking at schematics and only the receiver is striking me as a possibility. Thoughts???

Also, how the BLOODY HELL do you lock the doors manually from the outside? I've owned this car for 8 years and I still don't know how. I can only lock the driver door, but the others don't.

So leaving it undriven in the garage for the past 5 days fixed it...but that hasn't won me any comfort, it could happen again.

Thoughts??

Believe it or not, there is a small flap that covers the opening in the keyhole in the ignition switch.

It has to close in order for the remote functions (except for the "see you home" light function). This prevents the remote from locking/unlocking/manipulating windows/setting alarm whole the car is moving.

Put the key in the ignition, you should feel a little push back from the flap. If you don't, try a little WD-40 to loosen it up.
