Default Check Engine light and rough idling

Hello,

I have a 2002 X-Type 2.5 and recently I have been having some problems. When I start the car in not very cold weather it idles pretty rough (at about 500 rpm) and the check engine light is on. Fortunately when the car warms up a bit the rough idling goes away but the check engine light stays on. I have searched the forums and found that the IMT O-rings may be the cause. I have ordered them and I should receive them in a few days. The car also has he new hose, the ribbed one. And just wondering if the O-rings don't fix it, what else should I try?

Thanks

Could be misfiring( spark plug and or ignition coil). Invest in a code reader.

Don't you have some type of auto shop in where your from that checks error codes for you? Go to one of them and they can point you in the right direction.

mihai05, why did you order the IMT o-rings? Can you hear a hissing sound from the IMT valves? Since they are coming anyways, replace them if the originals are yellow and see if that clears up your problem before looking to try another fix without knowing what codes are present.

I changed the IMT O-rings because I read that if there is a hissing sound and if they are yellow, just as you said, I should change them. Anyway, I received them today and will put them on tomorrow. Hope this solves it!

OK, so I replace the IMT O-rings. The old, yellow ones even cracked when I tried to get them out. Anyway the new ones are in. But that hasn't changed anything, except the fact that the check engine light is now gone. When I start the car in the morning the car still idles pretty rough, and there car also seems to misfire a bit, the check engine light flashes and the comp. says "Cruise not available". It also misfires when accelerating, I was going down the road when it misfired a few times and then it got back to normal and the check engine light disappears.
Also, I have changed the plugs a few months ago. I think then next thing I should do is change the coils. Anyways, I think I should first take it to my local shop to check for any error codes.
Thanks.
