Default Clickety clack .... One of those days

Well just to add to the problems with my xtype the driver's side (UK) outer CV joint gave up today ... Really loud knocking when turning even a small corner ....with her up in air I've got a good 10° of movement just with my hand ☹️...sounds like a bag of nails as well ....the inner joint has got a fair bit of slack as well ..... Including the gear box oil that's my bank account another £55 lighter.
thank god ive got a lowly 2wd x-type ...some of the storeys I hear about the 4wd system are shocking.

Time to visit Eurocarparts AGAIN.

Hi Sorry to hear of your problem. At least it sounds as if you can fix it yourself. Think of the cost at a Jag main agent!
How many miles on the clock please?

Yes luckily parts ( other than injectors);are cheapish surround here, I stripped out the drive shaft yesterday afternoon, but it was siezed into the hub so had to hit the shaft a bit harder than I would like... So I've also decided to replace the wheel bearing as well ..after all it only takes one bruised ball to ruin your day ... Damn I have a 12 ton press and it took 7.3 tons to press out the wheel hub and 11.2 tons to press the bearing out of the hub ...only just had enough force in my press !!!!....and yes I applied heat...had to I don't think my press would have done it otherwise.... luckily the abs sensor came out ok.
As for mileage she's on 118000...so not too high which is why I'm a bit miffed about how much is wrong with her.

What no driveshaft ...or hub
The front bumper is off so I can waxoyl the front chassis legs and check over the intercooler system whilst waiting for the parts.

well she's back on the road for now .
I ended up getting the wheel bearings from ebay £25.99 for TWO !!!....same bearings as a MK3 mondeo obviously & cheap as chips...but had to wait two days...but at least I have spare if the other side goes.
x type wheel bearings
and as long as you have at least a 12ton hydraulic press and a good 3/4" socket set + large torque wrench replacing the bearings is fairly painless.

I also got the driveshaft from ebay in the end as well £44.99 plus £8.45 for a litre of gear oil from amazon for topping up box afterwards (only needed about 150ml in the end)
x type 2.0td driveshaft
drive shaft came next day.
gear oil
gear oil also came next day.

So for just under £80 this job is done .....cheaper than going to Eurocarparts this time....even with they're discount codes.

also noticed the lower ball joint cover was split so replaced the cover before refitting the hub assembly ...I have loads of spare covers in my workshop
Also decided to have look at the cat as it is a common problem on the mondeos and REALLY easy to whip off with out the drive shaft fitted..literally less than 5 mins.....OMG almost 100% blocked and wouldn't clear out with compressed air or even wash out with RO water...didn't have a spare ...so it now has a hollow cat till i can get a good used spare....which wont affect the UK MOT as my car is pre-DPF and only subject the particulate test....but is still very naughty so it will be replaced....got my eye on one on ebay

Lol, dw, reminds me of jumping over a defensive end on a football run. Yip, shoulder pad to the nut ended that day! Puked and passed out.
