Default Clutch Release on a 5 speed

If anyone knows much about manual transmissions and clutch release changing gears, please help.

I was wondering if there's any way to fix having the clutch pedal, as it releases too close to the floor - I'd like it to release mid way. There's not much room for me to step on the gas especially on the lower gears, as it tends to jerk at times when I release the clutch pedal.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have lost some clutch fluid. Is the level correct in the clutch reservoir?
Perhaps you have a leak. Are you leaking fluid from the bell housing?

There might even be air, I'm going to have to bleed it. The fluid does come from the same reservoir as the brakes, correct? If so, brake fluid has been at level. And no, there is no leaks - it's been this way since I got the car last year, but I've been gentle driving it with the release of the clutch. Do you have the diagram where the bleed valve is for the clutch?

Yes I can tell you all about the clutch. I should have taken photos after I took it out. Mine was trash.

I would try to bleed it first replacing all the brake fluid with new. It is the same as the brake reservoir. you will see the hose leading off the bottom left side to the master. The bleed nipple is on the top of the tranny bellhousing up out of the rubber inspection boot. Look just behind and to the engine side of battery. You will see a large oval rubber boot. If that does not help I would guess you have a bad slave or master but it is hard to tell. Do you have JTIS. The clutch Diagnosis there is a good start as it gives the measurements of clutch travel.

After you do that open the inspection boot and look at the slave. I can tell you that it should touch the pressure plate all the time and start to move just as you push the clutch pedal.

If you don't have JTIS send me your email and I will PDF the relevant pages.
