Default Cold Air intake

Thnx to exepat for all the good info i went with a new intake this weekend. I dont have all the nice plastic motor covers he has so this is how mine turned out. i think im gonna get a 45degree curve to put on the end though. there is a hole the size of the stock intake ports beside the radiator i can run my flex tubing and get more air. i also have to make a bracket for the small box above the filter. it sounds much better now. seems like throttle response is better too do i need to reset computer by unhooking battery? i was told by someone to do this. sorry for big pics was made with cell phone lol

Yes where can I buy a intake like that, I have searched the usually sites and no one seemed to make one for the 2.5L or 3.0L for that matter.

So the CAI is not model specific but you fabricated it. Good job looks good and I bet it sounds good. Honestly any increase in power or torque. I had a BMW once and had the car Dinan'd. Dinan is BMW official and only factory backed tuner. Spent a couple of grand for all the mods. After all was said and done I picked up about a second in 0 to 60mph. and a mile or two better fuel economy.

When I was changing the PVC I had to take off the top cover of the engine. I noticed and see you your picture the black box that is behind your intake. What is that for. Mercedes had a similar looking box on their V6 engine which was part of the air recirculating system. Any ideas?

the intake is off to the side of the radiator. there is a hole the size of the stock intakes. i used another coupler on the end of the flex tube there as well. that black box contains air for some reason im not sure what it does all its connectected to is the flex piece same as benz i guess

The black box is simply a baffle for the intake system. Baffles are used to change the effective length of an intake and/or create engineered turbulence in order reduce unwanted noise.

I removed the baffle and plugged the hole with a rubber plug. The sound of the intake is definitely more pronounced with it removed.

Yes I agree the box probably did the same on the Benz. On the Benz engine it was connected twice. First connection right behind the MAS and the second just before the the TB. I am wondering if this is some sort of pollution device? Even thou the one on the Benz I disconnected to look inside and there was nothing just a empty box? Never found anything online about it either and of course the dealer didn't know. You aid the sound was more pronounced, now I am wondering if it is just some sort of baffle?

What were the Spectre part numbers for the pipe going into the left side of the air cleaner and then on down. Might be beneficial to get some clean cooler air in there as well.

Ill get my good camera out this weekend and take some good pics of the intake off the left side and look up the part#s.
what i used that you dont see is the flex tubing running from the spectre coupler (that is connected to 90* chrome piece) to another rubber coupler that is open beside the radiator. so its actually getting air from 3 places now the 2 stock intake holes and the one i made left of radiator
