I hope you are all doing ok.
new to this forum and I have a few questions.
I drove against my wood fence and there was colour transfer which i cleaned with some Wd-40 but there are marks left and some colour washed off i think? I managed to make a massive dent also 🤨.
Secondly someone hit me and there are chips in the paint and it looks like there was work done before in that area and there are some dents also.
Thirdly there is a scratch someone did on the left side of the car.
So I suppose my question are:
1. what colour my car is , i could not find a label to specify that.
2. can I deal myself with the chips marks and scratches? What products would i need? I'm not bothered about the dents, I'm just trying to avoid rusting and for the car to look nice. I have been quoted 1000 ( cheapest quote i could find) to fix the issues including straightening the dents but I don't have that sort of money.
I have attached pics with :
-the colour in the sun
- the fence issue
- the scratch
-the accident issues
Thank you very much!
Colour Colour Paint off? Marks after driving against fence Scratch Chips with previous work. Chips previous work.
Don't guess paint colour. If the Manufacturer Identification Label is on the door pillar of your vehicle (and it would be highly suspicious if it isn't), the paint colour is the three letter code. Post it here for a decode.
If the label is missing, any Jaguar Dealer can identify the original paint code from the VIN which allows them to lookup the vehicle specification. The paint code itself is not part of the VIN details.
Thank you for the help, i will try the VIN route since i cannot find any sort of label anywhere indicating paint. Im hoping i can find the VIN on the registration document since i did not have much luck finding that on the car neither!
The color code of your x type is JJX
also known as Indigo pearl essence.
i have the same color x type spart as you.
Great, thank you very much. I did not get around finding the VIN and checking what i have been recommended, i will confirm as soon as i do that.
thank you!

Sorry to bring this thread back to life but I also have the same issue with no door sticker to see the paint code and this is the only thread I have seen about paint so far. I will contact dealers but just to double check with others I have a 2003 jaguar x type shown in the picture. I have been searching for a while and I think I narrowed it down to slate grey metallic (1943/LHL) or quartz metallic (1926/LHK), but both seem very close. I am trying to find some touch up paint for what looks like a scratch from someone keying the rear door and panel and don't want to order the wrong thing. Any help is appreciated and apologies if this is the wrong place for this, still getting the hang of the forums. I can also take photos in daylight if it helps with diagnosing the color.
The most effective way of getting matching automotive paint is to go to an auto supply store that mixes the paints - they are very common. They will take a photograph of the paint at zero distance from the paint. This tells them what the paint colour formula is. They mix it, including the clear coat in a spray can.
How do you use it? Easy. For chips and scratches you spray a small amount into the cap after thoroughly shaking the can. Use a fine artist’s paint brush to fill the defect. It may take several applications to fill the defect properly. For large areas you use the spray itself, having properly prepared the area.
This process matches the paint to YOUR car, faded or not, not to a factory paint code. I have done this on every Jaguar I have owned with perfect results.
