Console light is what? 2002 X Type
OK, I've been through the manual 3 times and I must be blind because there is a light mounted on what looks something like a micr. or air duct shield on top of the center console behind the shifter. That light comes on and blinks. After I drive it a while it goes off. I cannot find what the function is and what the slotted piece it's attached to does. It's probably there but I can't find it. Is this the low battery light? I'm lost. thanks.

That is the coin holder and the red light is simply the alarm/security indicator. When you lock the car that light will begin to flash; when you unlock it is should stop flashing. If that red light flashes while you are in the car then there is a defect somewhere in the system - most likely something very minor - for example a sticking gate in the ignition switch - when you remove the key a small gate falls - you should hear it click when you remove the key. I would begin by thoroughly lubricating the ignition switch and all of the door lock mechanisms (the security system takes its signal from those lock mechanisms).

Sounds like fun but you are talking about a totally different model of Jaguar. There are no supercharged X-Types, and the light in question is simply the security system flasher.

Thanks Folks
Hey thanks for the info. I knew it would be something blatantly obvious but I'm willing to feel stupid to resolve an issue before I get a load of costly grief. We've had 3 or 4 weeks of sub-zero weather and I think maybe some moisture frozen in one of the locks may have been the issue. I cleaned, oiled, and the light is gone. I appreciate you taking time to respond. While true this car doesn't have a turbo assist I will now refer to the security light as my Turbo Light. It sounds so much more classier. **grin** I love ya all and once again thanks for making my Jaguar experience a little easier.

Ok I get it-you are humor handicapped. Regarding your response of "no supercharged X-types" I have to disagree. Otherwise I have had something else that looks a great deal like a supercharger re-belted and upgraded with different pulleys.
Thanks anyway for the useful info.
