Default Coolant reservoir nipple broke: can I fix with barbed brass fitting?

I noticed that my temp was fluctuating slightly. Popped the hood and found that the nipple on the top of the coolant res cracked. I can easily fix by removing it totally and threading in a barbed brass fitting of equal size.
Would anyone here see a problem doing that?

That's exactly what I did. I heated the brass fitting with a heat gun or you can use a propane torch. Just make sure you don't heat too much. Just enough that it slowly melts into the hole. Left it cool and connected the hose. I know that everyone says you have to buy a new tank but I thought I would try that first. Never had a leak since. Been almost a year.

Why does everyone say to buy a new tank? I know the tank is only like 50 bucks, but wouldn't this fix be just as good if not better?

I just tapped the hole with 1/4 NPT and screwed in a brass fitting with some gasket sealant around it. Have not seen any leaks and its been over a year.

I took a piece of aluminum tubing and inserted it in the two broken halfs and applied a little JB Weld its been in there a couple thousand miles now, no problems.
I just bought a new tank and all new hoses, belts, and intake seals and going to give a good service next nice day
