Coolant temperature gauge like Real Gauge
Hello forum,
My thermostat broke, again, and my replacement fan module was also acting up.
These fan modules seem tricky to troubleshoot. The last replacement appeared to work but then one of the fans will drop off now and again, as reported by my mechanic. I plan to purchase a new fan assembly - is there a year when they made better fan modules?
I've had enough trouble with the fan module and thermostat that I'm interested in a temp gauge. Anyone know of a solution such as Real Gauge for the XJs etc?

Jag4, if you need something just for every now and then, try this: Get into the car and depress the TRIP Button, with the TRIP Button still depressed, start the car, after about 3 seconds, you should see the message center say "ENGINEERING TEST", at this point, release the TRIP Button. From here, you can press the TRIP Button a number of times more and you will start seeing the instrument cluster do all sorts of stuff (first 2 buttons test all the lights of the instrument cluster). After that, you can start watching the message center and in about 20 pushes is the coolant temp as the computer sees it. It will display it in degrees celcius. So, anything over about 102.0 on the dash will tell you that you are having an issue.
After that, any of the OBD gauge pods will work. This plugs into the OBD port and you can program the screen to monitor whatever you want on the supplied screen. The other option is to get an ELM327 unit, Torque APP, and an Android phone. You start the car, link the phone to the car and the Torque App will display the temp for you.

On a related note: Should I just assume all these fan control modules will fail, sooner or later? Is there a percentage failure estimate? I guess I should always have the module checked - I believe there is a documented way to do this, from Jaguar, since they knew it was a problem. I hate worrying about about heating issues, especially. I fully understand the long rage impact of heating issues cuz of my MX racing days.
Thanks again.
