Cooling sys. on my X-type won't pressurize
My 02 x-type was in an accident and the radiator was replaced. Everything checks out, no leaks, engine comes up to temp fine. The fans are working.
Next step was to drive the car long enough to bring the system up to pressure.
I drove the car about 5 miles checking the temp gauge the entire time. The car ran perfect. except the system does not pressurize. So I've isolated the problem to the reservoir tank. When I squeeze the radiator hose air is escaping out the overflow vent. It must be a bad cap. Its the Why part I don't understand. Please can someone help with expanding my knoll age on this subject! thank you.

RDW, the cap on our overflow bottles is a combination cap. Not only does it keep the fluid in the system, but it is also a relief valve that when the system pressure gets too high, then internals of the cap move, allowing the pressure to be relieved. So, if this relief valve has failed, yes, it would keep the cooling system at atmospheric pressure.
