Default Courtesy Door Lights Not Working

Hi, since I baught my car the courtesy door lights have never worked. I think the car dealer may have taken them out. How do I remove the red outer bit to get to the bulb, do I have to open the whole door paneling to get to it like to get to the speakers, or can it just be prodded off somehow. If so I will do it, if I have to take the WHOLE PANELLING off, I aint going to bother.

You don't need to remove the whole door panel. Just pop it off from the bottom, it'll pop right off. And I think last time I checked mines because they didn't light up either, I believe they are reflectors only. The S-Types have bulbs in them.

Default Not all have puddle lamps

If your car is a base model manual trans no auto lamps etc. it will most likely not have puddle lamps. If the DDW for your car says ENTRY where the car and engine sre listed it certainly will not have puddle lamps. If on the other hand you have a 3.0 aut trans, auto lamps with electric mirror, heated seats etc. it will have puddle lamps. If the DDW says HIGH where the car and engine are listed you will certainly have puddle lamps.

I have a 2003 X-Type 2.0 Diesel SE. It has full leather seats, full automatic drivers seat, half automatic passengers seat, power fold mirrors, elec mirrors, 4 elec windows, and rear parking sensors. It doesn't have heated seats, no auto headlamps, no headlamp washers and no sunroof.

By the way, what is DDW and SRE?

The puddle lights were deleted in 2003 to save money and replaced with red plastic replicas

My 03 3.0 has the lights, I haven't had to change the bulbs yet, but I think you just remove the cover.

From the JEPC it appears that both lighted and non-lighted configurations exist. They both seem to use the same reflector and it attaches with clips on each end.

Default Courtney lights and reflectors.

I have the new model X Type (Sovereign edition) and thought that there might have been courtesy lights tucked under the front doors (even my MINI Cooper had those) but no, just little red reflectors and nothing at all on or under the back doors.

I also spent time thinking that those horrible orange reflectors on the side of the cars were repeaters without bulbs (I peered through and they look as if they have bulb holders) but have not taken them off but have covered them with tinted plastic; they look much better. behind them?

Anyone know more?

Robert

My 2005 wagon has reflectors - no lights. That was a surprise to me but it seems the lights were deleted about 2004.
