My cruise control on my jaguar x type comes on intermittently when driving for no reason.

Welcome to the forums, William.

Can you describe just what you mean when you say the cruise comes on intermittently and describe the circumstances when it happens? Like are you just driving along at X speed and then all of a sudden it show your cruise is activated? Or does it happen when you have been using the cruise and then stop using it it activates itself again? Any other things you can think of when it happens? Has it being doing for some time or just recently? If the latter, any recent work done to the car before you experienced this?

Is the car fairly new to you or have you had it for awhile?

I have had the car almost 10 years and only had this problem in the last year,
when driving about a mile or so all of a sudden the light says Cruise Control not available, I don't use cruise control at any time so wonder why this is happening.
I haven't had any recent work done on the car at all and it had never happened before.

That's the opposite of coming on. It's telling you that it would refuse to be on (not that you happen to use it).

There will be one or more reasons, commonly available by reading the codes from the various modules.

Well, that is certainly a lot different than the cruise coming on. There could be a number of reasons that could be happening, but what might be the most common is a wheel speed sensor. If that is the situation you will need to get the car scanned with a code reader that can read C (Chassis) codes. That would be the first place to start.
