Hlubikazi, I would not worry so much about the color of gear lube, but its properties. When it comes to gear lube (ie, what goes in the transfer case, rear differential), you are looking at "full synthetic 75W-140" fluid. Everything in quotes is what you need to have. Going with something else can potentially lead to rapid failure of components.

If you are talking about engine oil, then you actually have a few choices. The options pretty much come down to whether you want to run 5W-30 or 5W-20 oil. This can be conventional oil, full synthetic, or a mix of the two. Users here have used all of these and they all work just fine. The only negative that can be said about a full synthetic oil is that it will find smaller holes and leak out of them, leading to more oil leaks from the engine.

As for your red temperature light, you need to first figure out if it is an actual over heat condition or if it is a failure of the temperature sensor. I would start by simply having the engine cold (ie, has sat over night) and then get into the car and start it up, putting the A/C system on maximum (ie, lowest temperature you can set the car to, dash fan on the fastest speed you can set it to). You will then want to pop open the hood/bonnet and see how much air the engine fans are moving. If you lean in over the radiator, you should get a strong gust of air blowing in your face. If the fans are not running or they are simply blowing a little bit of air, then you have a bad fan control module most likely (common issue with the X-Type).

Since you have the hood/bonnet open, take a look at the coolant overflow bottle. Does it have fluid in it up to the "Fill Min" line. If the tank is empty, that is most likely the cause for the overheating condition and one must find the source of the leak (common issues are either a leaking water pump, crack on the under side of the overflow bottle, or a broken nipple at the firewall on the overflow bottle).

If your expansion tank is low, then I would say that with the engine still fairly cold, turn it off, fill up the expansion tank to the proper level, and then slide either some cardboard or newspaper (about 3x5 feet, or 1x1.5 meter in size) under the transmission to cover from the firewall to the front bumper. Once the engine gets up to temp, look under the car to see if you can spot any colored wet spots on your newspaper/cardboard. if it is near the back (firewall), then odds are it is your overflow bottle has an issue. If it is up near the bumper, most likely your water pump. If it is pretty much at the bumper of the car, this would be a radiator issue.

If you need more assistance, let us know.
