Default current brake fluid type not known. will dot 4 cause prob if dot 3 in now

Hi everyone,
it's time to change engine oil and brake fluid. I don't know what brake fluid is currently in the system. I intend to put dot 4 [recommended on this forum] in whilst bleeding the brakes.
1. Will this be a problem if the system currently has dot 3 fluid in it?
2. Can anyone tell me the capacity of the system is and therefore how much dot 4 brake fluid I need buy to totally refresh/flush the system please?
3. What make of DOT 4 brake fluid should I buy?
Also as I'm in the UK my handbook says Jaguar prefers 5W-30 and does NOT recommend synthetic engine oil? I'm planning on purchasing 6 litres castrol magnatec 5W-30.
4. Is castrol magnatec a synthetic oil?
Thanks for any info.

Turnbui, as for the brake fluid, look around. You should be able to find a full synthetic DOT 3&4 fluid. That should work dor you and not give you any issues. That is what i use. As for quantity, you will at least a pint ( half liter), but i would recommend getting a quart (liter) bottle to make sure you have enough.

As for the engine oil, people have used full synthetic with no issues. I am one of them. I did not see any changes to my car or improvement in mileage.

I would suggest going with the manufacturers recommended DOT rating. I know for example, DOT 5 doesn't work well, or at all, with ABS braking systems so it's safer to go with the correct fluid.
