Default Dashboard lights

Hi everyone.
So far when I'm driving my car, I don't seem to have any issues. No warning lights are coming in when I'm driving the car (unless I pull over to drop off a kid and the car is still on, then the red light saying which door is open comes on). What I have noticed is that often times I will turn my car off and I've forgotten to write down how many miles I drove that day (I get reimbursement from my job for it) so I'll put my key in and turn it to the second notch (I have no idea what "mode" the car might be in, but it turns on my dash so I can get the miles, and that's when I'll see different warning lights. Should these be addressed or is this normal?

You should be more concerned in what does not light up in lamp test mode. After a few seconds most of them will go out.

Did you know that if you hold in the button on the end of the turn signal stalk the trip meter will reset to 0?

When I read the manual it said that the battery and fuel light should go away when the ignition is started as well as the seatbelt and airbag light. My main concern is that my check engine light shows up when the car is on but goes away when the ignition has started

sarah,
that is normal. what is happening is the car is testing the dash lights to show you that all the bulbs are working.
if they stay on when the car is started that is when you know there is a problem.
If they do not come on then you know you have a bad led (bulb)
