Default dashboard noise/transfer case

greetings all...new x-type owner 55 plate 3.0 manual with 30,000 on the clock, was a proud owner but not so sure after reading through some of the threads in these forums.. thought i couldnt go wrong when buying a jag even if it is second hand but i cant believe the problems x-type owners have had specially machanicaly with transfer cases/boxes going on them in particular..amongst lots of other things so now not so sure if i done the right thing...ok my first query is to do with the dashboard dials i understand that when you turn off ignition as the dials settle to the bottom they make a wierd scratching sort of sound similar to a hard drive working away in a computer and jump for a sec thats fine but mine make this annoying noise all the time you rev the engine and the dials are coming back to the bottom, cant really be heard whilst driving but so annoying when slow moving or parking... does anyone have or know of the same problem and any ideas of how to cure it... many thanks in advance

I think I have the same problem as well. When my RPM climbs up to 2,000 RPM it sounds like some static noise as it climbs and drops back down.

Anybody know what this is caused by?

I never listened to mine to see if it does the same thing or not. Tomorrow I will listen and see if it does. Then if it does I will find out why and try to help.

Someone else should be along to give some real advice.

My I/P cluster was replaced under warranty due to the noise. It is known issue and the fix is to replace it and reprogram the odometer.
