Default Daytime running lights

Hello Everyone,

I am looking to see if I can get some advice on my daytime running lights. I have a 2002 X Type US model and my left side daytime running light is not coming on but when it gets dark the regular headlight comes on just fine. Could anyone point me in the right direction of what it could be? Thank you in advance.

The first place to check is fuse 64 in the fuse box under the dash on the left hand side. The fuse box is easier to work if you pull out the coin box from the dashboard. You will probably find that the left rear tail light is not working also. Same fuse. If the fuse is good then it may be just a bad bulb.
The link below is to a thread for the fuse box lay outs.

Sean, lets check to see where you have power and where you don't. Lets start off with checking the lights that are lit on the left front corner of your car. When you have your DRLs on (headlight switch in the OFF position), you are saying that the light for the inside headlight housing is out? Is that correct? Is the light on the corner of the bumper on though? If both of these lights are out, then I would look at the fuse (fuse F64 in the fuse box under the dash). If the one in the headlight housing is out, but the one on the bumper is lit, then you have a bad bulb or a wiring issue behind the front bumper.

I am making an assumption that you have the canadian DRL setup. The X-Type came with 2 different DRL setups. They can cause the headlights to respond differently. The big difference is the canadian setup keeps the low beams on regardless of the position of the headlight switch. The scandinavian version will allow the low beams to go out when the headlight switch is in the PARK position.

Sean wrote that his 2002 car is a US model - and that means that it does not have daytime running lights - so his question is a bit confusing.
Regarding the Canadian DRL system, there is no need to touch the lighting switch at all because all the exterior lights are on all the time (and for the 2002-2004 cars the instrument lights are also on). For the later cars the instrument gauges are not illuminated with the DRL system so nighttime driving requires turning the lighting switch to the park or headlamp position; this has no effect on the exterior lights since they are always illuminated anyway.

sov211, that is why I am asking the question. US Spec cars didn't come with DRLs that I am aware of. So, someone did something to make the DRLs work. So, the question comes whether they used the Canadian or Scandinavian headlight switch (the internals of these 2 switches are different). For that matter, someone may have even jumpered around something to make the DRLs work. I'm trying to make sure I understand his situation as I am a little confused as to what bulb is not playing correctly.

Thank you for the assistance, I went to work on it Saturday, and when I turned the key to the run position both headlights were coming on. So I drove it over the weekend and everything worked fine. So I am not sure what was going on. If it happens again I will pull the cups off and look for a loose or broken wire. Hopefully switching to HID'S soon.
