I have fault code p1582 and car goes into limp mode at 3000rpm, does anyone have any ideas what the cause is and how to rectify it.

Car is 2003 X-Type auto 2.5 petrol.

And help would be greatly appreciated.

The code P1582 means that the Flight Recorder data has been stored and will require a decent scanner to read it. The flight recorder cuts in when one of the following conditions occurs:
1 Inertia switch activated
2 Throttle Limp Home mode
3 Engine starts and stumbles
4 Engine fail to start
5 Engine stall

You say you have Limp Home mode, so that's probably the cause of the P1582, but there should also be other codes coming up as well as the dashboard light MIL to help identify what's causing the Limp Home Mode.

It's going to be difficult to identify the problem if there's no other codes or warning lights showing, but if you can get the use of a scanner that will show the flight data recorded that might help,

Huh.. limp mode u say, I had the same problem with my 3.0 x type, but I can't remember the code it gave me, anyway, what I was told is that the car had a vacuum leak so I went to the nearest autoparts store n got myself some brake cleaner then I put the car on idle n sprayed the cleaner at vacuum hoses until the car would rough idle at a particular hose then there lies the problem, so the hose that connected from the valve cover to the intake manifold was the problem, changed it n the x type was limp mode free, so check it out might be that ...

No other codes present just the p1582
