The Dealer says.....
Well, I just got back from the local Jag Dealer for the recent '04 recall. I asked the mechanic to give the tranny a check. I told him how the red warning light goes on from time to time when I first start out on a cold morning. I also told him that when its cold, the tranny acts like its in Neutral going up the driveway. Once its warm, the light goes off, yet the tranny still seems to slip a bit. So, he told me that although the light goes out, the computer still held the codes. Basically, there's some slippage between 3rd and 4th gears. So, short of a rebuild (which he didn't think was necessary at this point) what do you think. Do I dare say "a can of "NO SLIP"??!! He also told me that in cases such as this, Jaguar recommends to the dealers to 'add a quart of tranny fluid". In lots of situations he say, trannies are over-filled. What the hell have I gotten into?
Yeah whatever, problem cold, then ok when warm can be underfilled. And you should never overfill as this can lead to aeration of the fluid. And air in hydraulic fluid doesnt work real well. I would check for correct level and if you need to add, ive used lucas mechanic in a can (TRANS SLIPPAGE AND CONDITIONER)and gotten good results, also need to make sure the shifter cable is adjusted correctly, while theyre not as much an issue as stypes they do streatch and can lead to problems
