Did I waste some money?
So I know I posted asking about tire sizes a few weeks ago, and was just browsing through some more threads, and realize i may have a problem with the rims ive bought. What is the offset minimum/maximum, and how are these things going to affect me? I see 42mm listed on one thread, i see tirerack offering rims down to 40mm. some as high as 52. Ive bought a set of rims that are 35. Are these not going to work? its an 18x8 rim, 35mm offset. Have i wasted a coupla hundred bucks? will wheel spacers solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Gmaxima, offset is a tough thing to understand. THe simple answer is that offset is simply a number to indicate a difference between the back side of the hub and the center of the rim (from outside to inside). This difference is key as the hub is designed to keep the center of the rim in line with the center of the hub bearing to minimize bearing wear due to torsional stresses trying to fold the tire under the car or up into the wheel well. You get too far out and you will see additional hub bearing wear.
You are probably just fine as you will need the less offset to prevent the wheels from rubbing at full lock on the inside of the wheel well due to the wider rim.
As for wheel spaces, that would only make your current problem (ie, additional bearing wear) even worse as the center of the rim would be even further out from the center of the bearing. Being off by 7mm is not that much and in the big scheme of things not a concern.

You're going to need to do a slight fender roll, especially in the front but you'll be fine. My last set of wheels were x8 with et40 and ran a 225 tire. Et35 on a x8 will be a nice fitment, I always wanted to put on a 1/4" spacer with a 245 tire but ended up going with a 18x9.5 with 38mm offset and a 265 tire 😈 nice and meaty.
