Well, it happened - some punk stole my hood leeper emblem. Looks like it is gonna cost like $200 some dollars to relace. Dammit!

Is the ones on our X-Types 6 inches? I am thinking I am just going to buy a stolen one off Ebay and glue it on - instead of getting the whole assembly.

Too bad dude, I feel for ya. And to think I had one spare. Was there a lot of damage? I hear they just break off without damaging the hood. (This is one of the reasons they are illegal in the UK)

No damage to the hood at all, looks like the assembly is two pieces on top of the hood

I think someone in the parking garage does not like my X-Type

Can someone measure the length of their leeping cat emblem on their X-Type, if you have a chance?

its very rare to find a full set with base for under $100. trust me i have very good experience with this considering ive had 8 leapers stolen off my cars total.

the one you need is a 5" for the X. I recommend getting one thats already broken off....tying it down with metal wire so that it doesnt break of easily

So there are two alternatives to keep this from happening in the future. stu55 has a great write up on how to secure the leaper on the car.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...42-10-a-35387/

The second is a personal preference. Some people are removing the leaper all togeather for the euro badge look.

Getting one that's already broken off would practically mean buying a stolen leaper :E no need to support the thieves, they steal them to sell them.

There have been many discussions on how to prevent the theft of the Leaper throughout this website. My favorite to date is to run a couple of hidden wires to the bottom side of the Leaper up from a stun-gun taped to the underside of the hood (bonnet).

Trouble is, most everyone realizes that would probably result in even more damage being done to the car, when the culprit returns after changing their underwear.

I therefor present a subtle, inexpensive yet highly effective way to identify and punish the vandal:

Superglue a few tiny yet very sharp glass shards to the bottom of the Leaper, and keep those shards "charged up" with the tiniest amount of fetid human excrement.

If your Leaper is stolen again, just keep an eye out for the culprit: they will be the person whose skin will be turning yellow (jaundiced) from the e. coli in a few days, because their liver is failing!

(Isn't it amazing how an idea can be both sh@tty and brilliant?)
