Just to clarify, are you after the differential or transfer case drain plug?

Irish, it doesn't have a drain. You need to get some sort of pump to get the fluid out. You can get a simple hand job one for around $15 (CDN) at your local auto parts store. They make electric ones (removes the fluid faster), but they run a lot more. Unfortunately, the fluid is too thick to simply try to siphon it out (trust me!!!!! it will drain out, but will take about a month to do so).

a simple hand job for 15 buck is a deal lol..kidding i know what ya mean..i was going to use a auto pump that operates much like a syringe,,will this work..it would be the same one i use for the xfer case..i guess im looking for a pic of the location to do this proceedure..ie..the bolt or whatever i have to remove to get to the rear diff fluid..

If you crawl under your Jag from the rear (jacking it up and holding with jack stands helps), look about 3/4 the way up the diff case on the drivers side. It is the only thing on the rear of the diff case. If I remember correctly, it takes a 3/8inch ratchet to remove the plug.

Hope that helps enough.

Irish, Four Stroke has the idea. There is only 1 plug to remove on the rear differential. If you are undoing bolts, you are removing the wrong thing and working way too hard.

Guys, just to confirm, once it's drained, you just fill it up the rear differential to the top of the drain hole right? No need to measure a specific amount of fluid, and no risk of overfilling?

yep thats the idea..to the top of the fill plug..that being said..if ya but two q of 75 140 synthtic, you can do the xfer case ..once and the rear diff once, and have a little left over ..the amount the rear diff requires from my snooping around is 1.2 litre's.hope that help's,I.m sure you wont get everything out of it so expect to put in right around a litre or just over
