Default DIY window tints.

Has anyone had any joy fitting diy window tints. Not sure whether or not to get window tints fitted professionally or have a pop myself. Don't want 'em be filled with bubbles and creases etc.

cheers.

I just had them done at a shop. I didn't want to risk anything

jonesy, I have done my car. Don't go cheap on the tint. I did and after a few years, the tint faded and it is no where near as dark as it used to be. The rear window is going to be the hardest and if it is your first time doing it, get a second piece of rear window tint. Odds are, you are going to fudge up the first one. You will also need a second person to assist with getting the rear window tint in place. I also recommend putting the tint on the outside of the window to shrink it to how it needs to be. This is easy to do by using a hair dryer on high heat. lay the tint like it would be inside the car, but lay the tint on the outside of the car. Use the dryer to cause the corners of the tint to shrink slightly so it lays flat on the window. From there, you can put it inside the car, remove the clear part, spray it down with some soapy water and apply. Use lots of soapy water and leave the very top of the tint free so you can squirt in some soapy water to keep the film free until you have it in place. From there, squeegie out the center and work your way to the edges.

Not a hard job, but the rear window can be a real PITA.

I would just pay the shop. You'll get it done right the first time, the tint will fit perfectly all around the edges and up to the edge of the window at the top. And you get a much better tint that won't fade or color.

jonesy, some of the kits are, some are not. The question you have to ask the seller is what type of film is included with the kit. Some will allow you to upgrade (for a price), others have the kits with the higher end tint. If you go after the lowest cost, then yes, you are going to get the cheap tint which is going to fade on you in a few years. Another one of those "You get what you pay for".

I believe at the time, I paid something around $250 for ceramic tint on the four windows plus the rear window

I just got quoted $200 from a professional shop. They even gave me a lifetime warranty so if it bubbles or fades, I get new tint for free
