Default door lights

I have a 2005 X-type, I noticed today that there are no lights on the inside of the door when it is open. There is a piece of red plastic on the bottom of the door that i think is a light. I also remember a light on the 03' i used to have... but i can't say for sure. so the question is, is there a light on the front two doors so you can see the ground when you get out on a 2005? if yes then does anyone know what fuse is for them?

jvegas, let me get home and check my service CD and see what is says. I'm sure it is pretty easy to do. I just don't want to be guessing on something like this. Now the information that I will have will be based on a 2004.25 year car (late 2004 build car). So, it should be the same as your vehicle.

Can anyone post the year/trim level combination that was necessary for these to be working lights versus just reflectors? I think my 2005 has the reflectors, but I thought it had a higher trim level. Although it lacks navagation and the phone it seems to have most everything else. Neither of my puddle lights work, so I assume they are reflectors but I had never given it much thought until I saw this post and went back and viewed a few other related posts on the topic.

jvegas, looking over my service CD, there are no instructions on removing the outer lens. It does talk about disconnecting the plug on the back of the door panel.

With that being said, look on the bottom edge of the lens and see if there is a small indention either in the center or one near each corner. If you have the indention(s), then you can take a small flat bladed screwdrive and gently lift up on the lens and that will release the clips on the inside of the lens.

Hope this helps.

well I found this while searching for the answer to my question,

"The '04 X-type also sprouted a wider boot plinth, and found the boot latch release button located under the edge of the boot, which eliminated the freezing issues found w/ the push button location on the face of the boot. The silver trim on the boot was also found to be a bit wider, and the once standard puddle lights were replaced w/ reflectors."

I think that sucks! I am going to look tomorrow and see if there is a way to put some lights in the door some how...

jvegas, your best bet will be to make a small LED array of saynine 15K MCD white LEDs. That will give you enough light to light up the ground. The "hard" part of this all is running a wire from the cab of the vehicle into the door via the boot for the door.

If you need more info for this, let me know. I have created a few LED projects for my vehicles. I made an 18 LED array for the doors of my truck to replace the factory bulb and I created a 390 LED array for each taillight. So, I have a little bit of experience with this.
