Default Door mirror wiring

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I need some guidance. I've already followed some very good adive I gleaned from lurking, but my search for this one came up dry.

The heat on my driver's door (LHD) mirror does not work-- there is no power to the heating element. It's working on the passenger side as well as the rear window. I'm puzzled as to where to begin to troubleshoot, since Jaguar apparently changed the mirrors from year to year. So far I've found a 3 wire, a 5 wire and a 7 wire mirror. Mine is equipped with the three, but I don't know what the differences are.

I wonder if a previous owner might have replaced the mirror with the wrong one?

Anyone know how these things actually work? My adjustment works fine as does the memory. I do not have power fold.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I may have answered my own question. There's a solid state module in the mirror. I bet mine is bad. I bet I need a new mirror.

That's unfortunate.

3 wire = memory with or w/o powerfold
5 wire = non powerfold non memory
7 wire = powerfold non memory

Thanks. That makes sense.

My adjustment and memory works which indicates to me a problem with the circuit board in the mirror.

Anyone have a busted up 3 wire mirror that I could use the guts out of?

Is there any way to connect a 5 wire replacement mirror, using a 3 wires original control unit?

I own a 2005 X-Type VDP, and "lost" both mirrors, and now I already bought a pair that was supposed to be compatible... but they are 5 wire type.

I can´t exchange them and I don´t want to buy a new pair!!

Thank you for your advice!

I have the same problem! Did you find any solution? Mine is equipped with the 3 wire, and bought a 5 wire pair...

Wow.. I had forgotten about this thread. Never did find a solution, but then a distracted driver ran a red light last month and totaled my X-Type and solved the problem for me permanently.

I made sure my new AMG Benz has working mirrors before I signed the paperwork!
