Drivers door won't unlock for my wife!
I have just bought an x-type, 2004. I'm pleased with it, however.... When I drive it the door opens and closes perfectly (I weigh around 90Kgs), but when my wife drives it (she weighs around 60 Kgs) the door won't unlock. This happens even when she just sits in and the car hasn't moved, with ignition on or off. Does anyone have any ideas how this is happening? Before anyone asks she pulls the handle very hard, and a friend of ours who weighs about the same as my wife couldn't open the door either.
Welcome to the Forums.
Please do an Intro in the New Members Area when the beast is sorted.
I am NOT typing my thoughts, I am not that brave.
The X Type (X400) Tech Section, a tad further down the home page, will have answers.
I have no idea why male/female makes any difference?? Maybe???, the remote handle cable thingy is worm slightly, and you just happen to get it right, dunno.
Good luck.

When you say the door won't "unlock" do you mean it it locked and won't unlock or do you mean the lock itself is not on, but she has a hard time letting the latch to open the door when she pulls on the handle?
When I had mine it seemed like front passengers sometimes had a hard time getting the door to open, but I could do it easily every time. I think it might be because I was used to it and others thought the force needed too open it was higher than anticipated. If the door otherwise opens and closes smoothly for you, chances are she just needs to use more force.

Got it sorted. It wasn't her weight but rather her height. When I open the door (I am tall) I pull the door lever slightly uphill, and when my wife does it she is pulling slightly down hill. When she pulls the lever up it works fine. I'll lubricate the mechanism to ease this and in the meantime she knows how to get out.
