Drivers side speakers
I have a 02 xtype and for some reason all my speakers on the drivers side (american) have gone out. The passengers side works fine. Does anyone have any idea what it could be. I pulled out my radio and tried to reconnect the harness in the back but it didnt make a difference.
Time to buy new speakers. It would take a lot for the connection to become undone in the door panel. I got a set of MB Quart speakers for the entire car from aquill1. They sound a helluva lot better.
I will buy new speakers if I have to, however there must be some other problem. It doesnt make sense that all the speakers would go bad at the same time. Is their a fuse that would control the speakers on that side of the car?
I agree with you the multiple speakers going out is not logical. If the problem is really with the speakers.
Looking at the JTIS schematic there aren't any fuses associated with the speakers only the wiring between the audio unit and speakers. Where you have wiring and connectors there is the possiblity of a bad connection so this is where I would be looking. Where to look I can't tell you because they don't show the routing of the wires. Since all your left side speakers are out I would think that the problem will have to be between the audio unit and the left front door post.
Of course worse case scenerio would be a problem with the audio unit itself.

Although not logical (it surely makes no sense to me[:@]) but there have been multiple people that profess that not just one but even all 4 have gone bad. Hey spartan I still haven't seen the speakers installed or how you like everything...

I have the same problem but the right side is not working for me. The tweeters are working but not the mids on the right side..(front and back). Seemed to do it all at once but it is possible that it went over time and I just didnt notice. I have repalced the head unit with a newer version with a CD polayer and I have the same problem . I have looked for an amp but my X-type 3.0 must not have that upgrade....looks like it's all running from "deck power". I have taken the panels off and have inspected the connections and all is fine...the only thing I have not done is try other speakers. I do have some that I think would fit but then I would have to splice the connectors and I just havent had the time to mess with it. I will let you know if that solves it...
ok read everyones posts again, and go buy new speakers, theyre bad, 2 went you probobly didnt notice till the other went also. I replace Xtype speakers all the time for this. But if you prefer take it to the dealer, pay the 1 hour ck out fee to have them tell you the same thing we all have, or you can just paypal us all the $130 you save split up between all of us
At least try a speaker from the working side on the non-working side or hook the bad speaker to a good stereo. Could possibly be 2 channels crapped out. Either way, I have 2 stock front speakers, I believe they are alpine, I could ship them to you if you want.
you may wish to try hooking up a new or known good speaker to the speaker leads for the bad speakers behind the head unit. It is easier, IMHO, to remove the head unit than the door panel. Peel back some of the wire sheath and hook up a couple of jumpers to test the leads. Then you can determine if it is the speakers/wiring to the door, or the head unit.
I have a break down of how to remove the unit and a pic of the wiring and description here: http://mydrive.roadfly.com/blog/ChrisX/
I still think it is the speakers.

I say speakers are the problem...
Honestly the door panels are the easiest I've ever removed in my life. Just make sure you get every screw off and your set. I couldn't believe how easy the panel is to remove.

I always end up braking a few of the plastic clip thingamabobs on the panel, since finesse is not one of my strong points. They are cheap, but still a PITA. I can pull the head unit on the X in less than 3 minutes.
sounds like speakers are the overwhelming favorite.

Hey chris have you removed the panel on the x? It seriously is the easiest thing ever...i don't remember popping any of the door panel clips at all...it was a smooth flowing process just don't forget any screws!

Hello All,
I had spent alot of time reading all of your postings but I finally took the plunge and am responding for the first time. I also have an '02 X-Type with the premium system and no NAV. I just recently had the same problem of my door speakers going out with the exception of the rear door left. I looked at everything from the connection to the fuses. I took the advice of taking the good speaker and switching it to another spot. That is when I discovered the door speakers were blown. I contacted a localJaguar dealership and was quoted $93/speaker. I purchased Alpine SPS-600 speakers to simply replace them. They are working beautifully with the stock system.
