Default Driving with bad o2 sensor?

Had posted about getting a P1647 fault code and immediately got the answers I needed. Thanks All!!!

Now the sensor is on order and should be here Fri or Monday. We'll see that goes. While I have only driven the car 2-3 times for a total of -30 miles, I wonder if I'm going to ruin anything by taking it out. I have an apt for new tires on Friday and it's about 30 miles round-trip. Can I pull this off w/o blowing something up? Hate to burn a cat or something...

I thank you in advance and will report back on my tire adventure it it's a go. I either have the worst luck with tires or this thing just eats them.

Dave, the question that will be the deciding thing on this is whether the check engine light is flashing or not. If it is flashing, then driving the car is going to be highly discouraged as the flashing light is telling you that there is a possibility of engine damage. If the light is on solid, then all you are doing is possibly emitting more emissions than is desireable.

Thermo, Thanks for the heads-up! No flashing yet. I ordered the new sensor and it was delivered today. Was going to install it tomorrow and had an appointment to fit new tires on Monday. Guy called from the shop and said bring it in Sat and he'd do the tires and put in the sensor n/c. SWEET!!!!!!!!!

Will write a review of the tires (Michelin Premier) and relate the tire issues with this vehicle over the past 31k miles.

Thanks again Thermo!
