Default driving at a constant 90 mph?

has anyone driven there 3.0 five speed auto at a constant 90 mph, just curious of the rpms and fuel consumption? Also would that hurt the engine at all for reving so high for such a long period of time?

XKR, driving with the engine RPMs up that high is not going to be that bad. You are only going to be up around 3,000 RPMs or so. Not that big of a deal. If you were up around say 4500 or higher, then yes, that might be a little hard on the engine. As for mileage, not sure. I would say that you can expect to loose around 2-3 mpg from what you get now due to the speed. But, this is just a guess. Do it and reset your mileage computer right before the run and let us know what you find.

I know my car seems to get better mileage when I am up around 75 MPH as compared to when I am at say 60 or 65.

Hey and thanks for the reply, When I'm just sitting at 90, my rpms are at like 3300, so would that be hurting the engine at all? Also it always get a lot better fuel econ when i am at like 60-65. Is being at 2100 rpms seem right for going about 60mph?

To be honest, I can't really see why you're asking this?..no offence meant!

I've driven loads of different cars from Ford Mondeos, Saab 93, Vauxhall Vectra, Audi A6 during my time as a sales rep / area manager.

I covered over a million miles in 20 years and 60k miles per year wasn't unusual.

The cars were always serviced regularly, oil filter changes etc as required and sometimes I could do 300 - 400 miles in a day, the most ever was 700 miles in one day.

I'd regularly be up at 100mph anytime I was on the motorway and sometimes for 2 or 3 hours straight. The revs I guess could be in the 4000rpm+ range for that time. These car wewre brand new and in 3 years there'd be around 160k miles on them, the most was 196k miles in 3 years in a 1.9 Peugeot GLD, and still going strong at that.

New cars nowadays are tested to death, some are driven at some circuits at 100mph+ for 24 hours solid or more.
Jeez The XK120 back in 1950 averaged over 100 mph (160.93 km/h) for 24 hours. Changing drivers every three hours, the Jaguar covered 2579.16 miles, with a best lap of 126.2 mph (203.10 km/h).

In all honesty I think you'll be fine....go enjoy your car

XKR, the motors are meant to go up to 6500 RPM and be fine. The big trick is at those RPMs, you want to ease out of the throttle to prevent any valve damage. You can shock the system if you quickly get out of the gas. But, even that isn't too bad at only 3300 RPM. Otherwise, the motor will take that sort of speed no problem.

I drove about 1600 miles straight in about 24 hours at an average of 82 mph, according to the car, and had no problems at all. Did it again 2 weeks later coming back and still no problems. I think I got 24mpg average for both trips.

Yeah man, you're good.

I'd recommend a radar detector.
