Has anyone tried to convert the X-type over to E-85 flex fuel? With the cost of premium approaching $8 a gallon here in California ($10 in LA), and E-85 below $4 a gallon it makes sense for a conversion.
is it even feasible? If it is are the parts even available, and I’m sure a software update in the car’s computers.

 

RBaczek, well, this is easier said that done. Keep in mind that you have to replace a lot of the fuel system as any plastic part is not rated for E-85. So, you are looking at a new fuel pump, new injectors, a sensor to detect whether you are running E-85 or normal fuel, and probably a few other parts in the fuel line. Then you need to somehow feed that signal of E85/standard gas into the ECU (not sure how you would do that without getting a whole new ECU) and then you have to find someone that can program the car to be able to go between standard gas and E-85. For the cost, I don't see the momentary price hike in gas making it worthwhile.
