Default Engine cover

Quick question for you all... other than keeping the engine block clean, what is the use of the plastic engine cover? Is it OK to drive without it?
I have had to replace this one hose on my 02 X-type twice now because the engine cover has a ridge on the bottom that pushes into the hose and causes it to crack... so I wonder... can I just do without this piece of plastic?

Thanks!
KandA

KandA, drive all you want with that cover off. IT is only there for looks. It doesn't serve any other purpose that that.

Enjoy.
