Default engine oil drain plug location

just having a look under the car to see where the filter and drain plugs is located.
found the filter but found 2 bolts which could be engine oil drain plugs.
1. head of bolt facing the back of the car, about a 13mm head, on the bottom/side...slightly to the passenger side (USA)
2. much larger headed (approx 18mm) bolt toward the driver side on the bottom/bottom...though i'm thinking that might be the transmission drain plug

iownme, the 13m plug that you saw is the oil drain plug. The larger one I am not aware of what that may be. I would need to get back under my car to see if I can figure out what you are talking about. Of note, because you saw the bolt and didn't mention asking how to access it, you are missing a scoop on your car that directs air from under the car on to the transfer case. But, don't worry, 99% of us don't have that scoop either. It breaks off really easy and is only a little plastic piece that would need to be remove every time you went to change the oil.

i'm also missing the cover that goes on the engine, is that an issue?...i prefer the look without the cover, but if it has a real purpose i'll pick one up

The cover is only for looks. It serves no real purpose. But, if you find one, make sure that it comes with the fasteners. You can not buy just the fasteners through Jag and they are unique fasteners, so, getting them through say Fastenal is not possible. So, check out the local wrecking yards and pull it off yourself or make sure that if the yard pulls it off, they include the fasteners.
