Default engine temp sensor fail again

Driving from St Paul to Kansas City and my check engine light came on then the temp gauge pinged hot, i'd pull over shut the car off then back on and the temp would go to normal and the engine light would stay on, repeat every six miles to Des Moines. got it to the dealer they said it was the engine temp sensor, played hell finding one but after 200.00 got it fixed. picked it up last night and drove down to KC no problems, got into town made one stop then back on the road and within 5 minutes the engine light came on and the temp gauge started pinging hot again. pull over turn the car off, back on and temp normal, check engine light on just as before. my question is what could be causing me to blow up these sensors? or is it just my bad luck that i got a bad one to replace the bad one? it was hell finding the first sensor now Im stuck again.... any help would be appreciated..

Makes one wonder about the original diagnosis.
You need to read the OBD codes,

Have you got an IR thermometer to measure temperatures around the engine?

Default back on the road

Got the car into another shop and was getting the same code p01113 I believe, I'll have to grab my paperwork to make sure... but it was the temp sensor code.. this shop replaced the thermostat and so far that has done the trick. I drove 500 miles back to MN without a hitch. the guy at the shop normally works on Saab and said he has done that in these cars in the past and it resolves the issue. hope this helps if anyone has this happen to them.
