Entertainment System Dead
Hi folks
'59-reg X-Type with the Denso sat-nav system.
I found an excellent photo-tutorial on here a week ago, about how to clean and tune the sat-nav DVD unit. I can't find that thread now! If anyone could point me at it, I'd appreciate it.
Followed it carefully, unfortunately unsuccessfully ("The disk installed is not a map dvd"), so maybe a worn/weak laser wasn't the problem after all. Or maybe the problem I'm left with is just part of the bigger one...
NO ENTERTAINMENT AT ALL. Radio tuner screen comes up, but no sound. CD appears to play, but no sound. CD Changer... system doesn't seem to think there is one!
This "feels" like I've knocked out a fiber-optic connector somewhere... does that sound likely? Anyone come across this before? That cage in the boot is a nightmare to work around, so I'd appreciate some pointers before I climb into it again.
One thing... when I removed the fiber cable from the back of the DVD unit, a little spring fell out of it. I couldn't see where it came from.

The fuse box I'm on about is accessed by removing the small panel in the back of the glovebox or better still by removing the glove box. I wouldn't imagine anything you did at the back of the car would affect the plug at the front though.

Hopefully the above link will work for you, have a read through it as it seems that the small spring you mention earlier in the thread is part of the fibre-optic plug.

I don't know if it helps but my cd changer died on me and I had all the same symptoms as yours. As it was completely dead, the optical daisy chain was broken so the audio amp could not work and hence no sound. replacing the changer with a new one cured the problem so I would say you are definitely having a optic link problem
