Exhaust fumes in ventilation system
Could someone help me, over the last few days I have been experiencing what seem to be exhaust fume smells coming in through the ventilation system on my x-type 2.2 d. I took the car to the local dealer who found a small oil leak from one of the turbo charger pipelines which had sprayed onto the engine block. The pipeline was tightened and the excess oil cleaned off. Thinking that this would have solved the problem, but no. I still seem to have the smell of fumes entering through the vents. Has anyone ever had this problem or would know what it may be that is causing the problem there just doesn't seem to be any visual signs of any exhaust leakage anywhere. Please help

jafar, based on what you are describing, you have a problem with the exhaust header more than likely. I would have thought the dealership would have found that. But, maybe not.
What you can try is taking a piece of rubber/tygon tubing and holding one end up to your ear and running the other end along the exhaust system (all the way from where it exits the engine, past the turbo, on back to the firewall). Try to make it as far around the pipe as possible at any joint and at key parts like the exhaust manifold and turbo. If you start hearing a whistling sound or a chugging sound that is louder than in other places, you have found your leak. Then it is a matter of figuring out what the part is and how to fix that part. Something like a turbo or exhaust manifold will require replacing the part. If a joint is leaking, may just have come loose and a simple tightening of the joint will fix the issue.
Wish you luck.
