Looking for some guidance. I have a 2005 X-Type 3.0 with no climate control or interior lights. I checked the fuse block and found F49 10A blown. I tried to replace it but it blows instantly. I pulled out and disconnected the 2 wire harnesses to the back of the climate control assy, but the fuse is still blowing. Can anyone give me some ideas on what I can look for?
F49 10 Air conditioning ECU, interior courtesy lights, roof console, in-car sensor.
If in-car sensor confuses you, it's the one behind the little grill that measures in cabin temperature. The one that often people posting about a "buzzing or whirling" sound. Caused most often by debris build up.

I popped the grill off and vacuumed out the heavy dust/lint. I then shot compressed air at it and saw that the fan is spinning. Still popping fuses, so I would like to disconnect it to isolate the problem, but don't have a clue how to get at it. Any chance you have instructions on how to remove this sensor?
If you have only disconnected the 2-way grey plug to the climate control (you must have the manual climate control system in your car to have that plug present), then you probably haven't actually isolated the power to the climate control system.
To do that you will need to pull out the white 26-way plug instead. If that stops your fuse plowing you have at lest isolated it to the climate system somewhere.
If however fuse 49 still blows, then you likely have a interior light circuit problem.
Fuse 49 feeds to:-
Vanity mirror lights (left and right)
Front interior light
Map reading light
Rear interior light
Foot well lights (L&R)
Trunk light
The interesting question is whether you have had any recent work done which might have disturbed wiring to any of these lights, perhaps a pinched or chaffed cable?
You could be extremely unlucky and had a lamp fail in such a way it has shorted rather than just go open circuit, or a lamp holder that has somehow shorted out.
It is going to be a process of elimination and metering to see if you can track if it is a specific lamp circuit.
Thanks for the detail on the circuit. I did disconnect both harness plugs from the back of the climate control, also the radio for good measure. Since disconnecting the interior temp sensor looks a little involved, I will pop off the A-Pillar trims and disconnect each plug. That should isolate the vanity mirrors, front light, map lights and rear light.
Disconnected the plugs on each A-Pillar...now the fuse does NOT trip. Making some headway! I suppose I will disconnect each vanity mirror, the center roof console and the rear light to see which one is the culprit. I don't have much experience tracking these types of problems down, so any tips would be welcomed. Thanks!
Great news! Found that the passenger side vanity mirror wire was pinched and was shorting out on one of the 3 screws that hold the mirror to the roof. Taped bare wire and rerouted the wire...good to go!! Thanks all for your advice!!
