Fed up of low profile tyres/alloys
Hi,
I'm fed up and frustrated (and out of pocket!) with getting punctures and split rims on my low profile tyres and alloys as the roads are so bad where I live.
I've got a set of 18" Aruba wheels on my X-Type that require 225/40 tyres.
Is it possible to change to normal tyres rather than low profile? I know I'd need new wheels but I'm wondering if it's possible and where the best place to look is.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam.

adam, first off, welcome to the Forums. We will feed you all the info that we have. But, as you will find, we are a friendly bunch and we like to get to know one another. So, please stop by the New Member Section and tell us a little bit about yourself and your car. This will give you a chance to meet those that make this place what it is.
As for what you are encountering, can't say that I am surprised. A lot of people have issues with the larger rims unless the roads are well maintained. You can go with as small as a 16" rim. You can not go any smaller due to the size of the rotors. So, that will give you atleast 1 more inch of rubber assuming you go with the same overall diameter tire. If you do some looking, you should be able to find some fairly cheap aftermarket 16" rims (who wants 16" rims any more as they are "too small"). Then you can find a comparable tire to put on the rims.
If you have any more questions, let me know. I will assist however I can.

I have the Aruba wheels and I feel your pain. I have had to replace three of them in the last 6 years because of them cracking or denting. I can't say specifically that it is the wheel's fault as much as having 40 series tires and very bad Wisconsin roads, especially in winter and early spring. Those wheels are kind of hard to find, but I like them so much I haven't considered going to something else.
By the way, good to see you posting again, Adam. Haven't seen anything from you in a long time. I know you have had some health issues in the past and I hope everything is going well for you these days.
